Debra Leigh - Biography

Debra was born in Manchester and divides her time working as a presenter, voice-over artist and voice coach, based in London.

She recently gained an MA in Voice Studies - from Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London), and is delighted to be working as a visiting lecturer at Central on the 'Voice for Performance' Course, as a voice coach for their business division, and hosting voice over workshops for the MA Voice Course. Debra has also coached at the Globe Theatre, the Foreign Office and for the Best Start Federation in Hackney.

With extensive experience in voice overs - for companies such as Disney, Channel 5, Living, Currys, National Express & Barclaycard, she has voiced for over 250 shopping centres in the UK. Technical reads are her speciality, such as Message Labs, Symantec. The harder the read, the better the challenge!

Added to this, Debra has guest presented on many shows for QVC, for their Home Style division, and worked as a full time host presenter for HSE having trained out at HSN in Florida. She has even found time to get out and about in journalistic mode, writing her own scripts as a breakfast reporter/presenter for Channel East (Sky Digital). She has broadcast traffic news to Classic FM, Jazz FM, and local BBC radio for AA Roadwatch, & worked for two years as a television continuity announcer for the BBC in London, introducing programmes live on BBC ONE and BBC TWO. As an actress, Debra spent 15 years working in both Rep & Commercial theatre. Her favourite acting roles include playing 'Hodel' in Fiddler on the Roof at Manchester Opera House (with Topol playing Tevye), and as 'Maria' in West Side Story at York Theatre Royal.

On television, she has played 'Sally' in Waiting for God (BBC), 'Beth' in Body and Soul (Carlton) and a Romanian student called 'Petra' in One Foot in the Grave - the episode being 'Love and Death' - Winner of the BBC Viewers Vote 2000.
